Need a cleaning schedule for your home? Try this simple app.
Designed by working parents, Clean Freak uses the "divide-and-conquer" approach to keeping the home clean. Break down your chores into bite-sized tasks, and do an item every day. Check an item you've completed off the list, and Clean Freak will show you how many days since a task was last done. Completing all items advances the rotation, and you are able to configure less frequent tasks in the "every 2/4/8 rotations" sections.
Features:
* Rotating checklist
* Shows number of days since last done
* Sections for "every 2/4/8 rotations"
* Add and delete tasks
* Move tasks between sections
Instructions:
1. Tap 'Edit' to add, edit, or move tasks between sections.
2. Create tasks that can be done in a single day, e.g. "Scrub bathtub".
3. Tap 'Reset' to reset all done dates to the current day.
4. Each day, launch the app and tap the next task that is not checked off. Do this task!
5. Enjoy a more manageable schedule - skip cleaning on busy days; check off 2 items on not so busy days.

Hi, I just bought this app and I'm wondering how to move items between sections. Also, it says in 3 rotations, do laundry room. What if I want to be ambitious and do the laundry room now? Is there a way to select that I did it? For the kitchen section, it would be helpful to have tasks based on that category such as: load dishwasher, unload dishwasher, wipe countertops, clean stovetop, etc. I was able to add these individual tasks as a main item, but how do I move them so I can have all the kitchen items together? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Karasick,
ReplyDeleteTo move items, go into edit mode, and place your fingertip on the right hand side of the task with the 3 horizontal bars. The task should "float" off the list, then you could drag it into other sections. This is standard Apple user interface design, so it is useful to know this feature. As for your ambitious issue; sorry, you can not select items that are not in the current rotation.
Thanks! That was really helpful. I'm officially trying it out today and adding to it as I come across things I want to add, such as vacuuming upstairs every 8 rotations. I'm assuming that 8 rotations would be 8 days since every rotation should be equal to every day. I think this should work out well. Thanks for a great app!
ReplyDeleteKarasick,
ReplyDelete8 rotations would not necessarily be every 8 days. It depends on how long it takes you to complete a rotation. For example, if you have 5 tasks in your rotation, and you do a task a day, tasks in the "every 8" section would be done every 40 days. I will try to clarify my instructions, if possible. Thank you for trying the app!
Thanks again for replying. The way I set it up was to put all the daily stuff in the first rotation, with the goal to complete that daily and then the 8 day rotation items would be done almost every week. Does that make sense? It was fun using it today, it was a super busy day and I got it all done.
ReplyDeleteThanks again, I look forward to seeing more from you!
If it were proper to make a feature request, I would like to check off a task before the rotation is active, perhaps with a dialog that asks, "Are you sure?"
ReplyDeleteThat's just me, though. Maybe I'll like how it works now and I won't need that feature after all. :)
You're the second person to ask for that feature, and the wife agrees it is useful. I'll try to get it in soon. Thanks for the suggestion!
ReplyDeleteHi I really like this app and i think it works really well. Especially since i work fulltime and sometimes the house cleaning looks huge. Is it be possible to assign specific tasks to a room? Like in the kitchen a task would be to do the dishes?
ReplyDeleteHi Jess,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. Like you, we also work full time and found this schedule to be the best way to keep the house cleaning under control.
As far as assigning specific tasks to a room - the way we do it is to just describe the specific task, e.g. "Do the Dishes". Maybe you could try adding a prefix to your tasks that describe the room - "KC Dishes", "KC Fridge", "KC Stove"?
Would you be so kind as to define the rotation schedule? Also, if a task is outside the rotation schedule, I can't click it "done" even if I've done it. Not sure if that translates well onto text but i guess I'm requesting the ability to edit my own rotation schedule. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHello Eli,
ReplyDeletethank you for that great app; you are right, it's the best way to keep the house cleaning under control.
For me, the ability to edit my own rotation, would be very nice, because I have tasks to do for example in 12, 24 and 52 rotations and can't manage it. Thanks.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the concept of rotations at all. I read the previous answers and questions, especially the one of May 13 in which you announced to clarify this. Could you please explain how to use the App and the principle of rotations?
ReplyDeleteWill this app be available as an iPad app? I know it will work on the iPad as is but I prefer apps that are designed for the iPad.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to set tasks up under each room and to set things up as daily, weekly, monthly, six monthly, annually. This would be much more useful than a rotation. Also I'd like to be able to mark something off early. Great idea looking forward to it having more custom settings.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, try my "It's Time!" app. It might be what you're looking for.
